North Sydney Welcomes Don't Tell Uncle, the Elevated Sibling to a Favourite Indian Spot in Surrey Hills

SYDNEY – July 2023: Sydney’s much loved Surry Hills Indian restaurant, Don’t Tell Aunty is welcoming a new addition to the family, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, called Don’t Tell Uncle. After 20 years of friendship, Indian expats and co-owners Varan Deep and Chef Jai Singh decided in January 2020, to take on Don’t Tell Aunty and have gone on to cement the venue’s spot on the Sydney food scene. Set to open its doors this Friday 7th July, their latest venture Don’t Tell Uncle will offer diners the same exceptional standard of service and cuisine with a new sleeker look for a more elevated dining experience.

Co-Owner Varan Deep said, “Dining is all about the experience these days, people prefer to go to a place where they feel special and can have a good time! Business is all about understanding your customers’ needs and providing them with what makes them happy. For us hospitality is all about people… and a good and strong team that can lead a path to a great and welcoming place. Both at Don’t Tell Aunty and our new venue, Don’t Tell Uncle we always strive to ensure that everyone leaves our door with a big smile and an experience to remember.”

Chef Jai Singh, is a talented chef, who earned his stripes one of Sydney’s Indian food institutions, Surjit’s Indian Restaurant in Annandale. At Don’t Tell Uncle he takes diners across India with a healthy selection of dishes from a number of regions, so expect flavours from Kashmir and Punjab, and all the way down to Goa. Fans of Don’t Tell Aunty will see a few of the old favourites on the menu including Uncle Tso Cauliflower and their famous cheese naan with blue cheese, mozzarella, cheddar and spices.  The menu is divided into feasting menus, grab a munch (snacks), appetisers, uncle’s tandoor, uncle’s master strokes (mains), uncle bold strokes (veg), uncles fresh garden, breads and desserts. Chef Jai carefully creates individual bases for all their curries, and as ever they cater for all kinds of food leanings from fodmap, to dairy free and gluten free – they have it all covered and it’s all tasty!

For those wanting to celebrate a special occasion the owners will continue their wonderful reputation as hosts, welcoming all kinds of celebrations and functions. Guests will be treated to a new and improved drinks list featuring everything from banging new cocktails and classics, to a carefully curated wine list celebrating the best of Australia’s wine regions.
